HOW TO STORE and RIPEN LIKE A PRO.

How to tell if a Delcado is ripe?

Like most Hass avocados, the skin on a Delcado will turn from green to purplish black when it’s ripe. Press near the stem, gently does it. A ripe Delcado will give a little when pressed. There’s no need to squeeze it all over, this will just bruise the flesh. We reckon it’s better to save your squeezes for someone special.

Where’s the best place to keep your Delcados.

In your belly! Ok, we get it this is serious stuff. We put a lot of hard work into growing a better avo and we want you to keep it tasting top notch. The best place to store your Delcados is in a fruit bowl at room temperature until they reach the ripeness you need. Then keep them in the fridge. They’ll last around 3 days once ripe.

Ripening.

If your Delcado is not ripe enough, just put it in a brown paper bag with an apple or banana for a day or so. The plant hormone ethylene, which occurs naturally in fruits like apples and bananas, triggers the ripening process. Keep that fun fact up your sleeves for your next quiz night.

Can you freeze AN avo?

You bet. Don’t let your ripe Delcados go to waste. Simply dice up or smash any left-over avocado flesh, add a squeeze of lemon juice to stop it from browning, and then place it in a zip lock bag, taking care to remove the air. You can keep your Delcados stored this way in the freezer for up to six months. Frozen Delcado is unreal in a smoothie.
